Mya joined Girls Group in 7th grade when she was looking to find community and connect even deeper with her friends who were already in the group. Now, as an 8th grader in her second year of Girls Group, Mya is a leader in spaces and has built many deep friendships. She is a very active member who participates in school year programming, summer, and weekday enrichment programs, and is a member of the Middle School Youth Leadership Council.
One of Mya’s favorite things about Girls Group is all of the new opportunities and connections that it has brought her. When asked how would describe Girls Group to someone, she said “It’s a big community where you can connect and have fun with the people you’re with.” Of all the programs she has attended, some of her favorites have been ice skating with Girls Group, a College Tour from the perspective of a student athlete, and all of her in-school group programming at Scarlett Middle School.
Mya shared that she has learned many different lessons through Girls Group. “I learned to always be confident and never let anyone define who you are.”
Mya will be transitioning to high school next year and is excited to continue participating in Girls Group at her high school. Mya stands ready to conquer new challenges, defy expectations, and leave an indelible mark on the world.
