Chemistry shapes our day-to-day life, influencing everything from our food and clothing to our homes and health. Getting to know chemistry better is like getting an insider’s guide to life! Unfortunately, in the workforce, persistent biases and stereotypes tend to deter women from STEM fields.
Last month, Girls Group partnered with Ilera Apothecary to spark participant’s interest in chemistry. During the program, participants investigated the science behind bath bombs by creating their own from scratch. Participants got a taste of being in a real lab, complete with protective eyewear, gloves, and lab coats, while simultaneously learning foundational concepts about chemical reactions. After the program, one participant reflected, “I had such a good time! I didn’t know so much went into making bath bombs.”
