Girls Group’s Youth Leadership Council offers a powerful venue for participants to help their peers find their voice and inspire change.
With input from their peers, leaders in the program design, facilitate, and debrief weekly group discussions at all Girls Group middle and high school sites based on current events, issues in their personal life, or social concerns in their school/home/community. “[Being a Youth Leader] helped me come out of my shell,” one participant explained. “I know what I want to do with my life, and I’m very focused on that. I kind of have these stepping stones in my head of where I want to go and how to get there.”
This past year, youth leaders also helped with Girls Group’s annual fundraiser and managed the Youth Leadership Council social media page. The Instagram page, @SeeTheTruthYWFC, is designed and managed by the Youth Leadership Council to generate awareness around social justice topics that the council is passionate about.
Now, the search for Girls Group’s 2022-2023 Youth Leadership Council is underway as the next cohort of Youth Leaders are currently applying and interviewing for a position. We look forward to seeing the ways the next cohort use their experiences, strengths, and skills to reshape discussion spaces for themselves and their peers in Girls Group.
