Jaylina began her time with Girls Group in her freshman year when she found out a friend was in an afterschool group. Once she started, it was history from there. For Jaylina, the topics and conversations that Girls Group had regularly made her feel connected. When reflecting on her time in the high school group, she said “I felt I could voice my opinions without being judged”. Through those conversations, Jaylina also learned how to express boundaries and say no to things that don’t support her.
After graduating in 2021, Jaylina stayed with Girls Group and joined the College and Career Services group. In those spaces, she continued to have open conversations with group members and gained more community as she navigated her career journey as an adult. Jaylina knew in high school she wanted to go into the medical field. This summer she took a leap, enrolled in a phlebotomy class and graduated with a certificate in August! She now works in a lab at a local health center using the skills she gained from her classes.
While in school, and even now, Jaylina still uses the time management and organization skills. She used a lot of time management to balance being in her program and now to balance her new job. Jaylina mentioned “The amount of work that comes with the job is stressful”, but she is excited to learn more about her job as a phlebotomist.
